Buying an old Corvette!

Hey there people.

Let me start by saying, what a lovely gathering of Corvettes on this site

I am considering buying a Corvette preferably an early model C3 Stingray, my questions goes: In terms of maintains what year model requires the least amount of maintenance and regarding maintenance; what or which types of flaws are most common?

Secondly, I heard that coupes back in the day were used for tuning and street racing. Don’t know if this is true but some people do not recommend them.

Finally in terms of cost, what price am I looking at here?

    Kenneth,
Anyone that says they don't recommend a coupe doesn't have all their faculties. There are so many "experts" out there because they once knew a guy that was related to a guy who doesn't like coupes. Don't listen to these morons. If you find the car you want and it's in the condition you are looking for, then buy it. No matter what generation, no matter what style, you will have problems because of age and many other factors. What do you think is going to happen if you buy a 40 year old car? Have fun with whatever you buy but keep a savings account on the side. LOL, you'll need it.

In my experience running cost on an older Corvette is cheap compared to, say an English sports car.

You are right about that but so many people don't understand that unless you buy one already restored, there are so many parts that will need to be replaced. A good friend has restored over 50 C1's and C2's over the last 30 years and it can get very expensive. It's more of a "labor of love" than anything else.

Any Vette From the 50s, 60s and 70s Is Just a Chevy, Engine and Transmission parts are plentiful ,if you are not looking a numbers matching car. Most suspension parts are just Chevy parts. Body and interior parts thats a whole different story. The older the Vette the easy it it to work on. All Vettes are still bad ass
